About the Authors

 
 

Rick has been a songwriter and performer since the 1970s, with over 300 original tunes to his name. He is also a writer and producer for TV and Corporate videos. He makes his home in Parkland Washington with his wife Stephanie, their 5 children, 8 chickens, 2 dogs, 1 cat. and assorted horses, The animals have them outnumbered.


Rick has is the founder and Executive Director of Arts Renaissance Ministries, dedicated to building creative and spiritual excellence in artists since 1996.

 

Dave has been a musician and songwriter since dirt was a new concept. He and his wife Anne live in the ancestral home in Olympia Washington, just minutes from where The Watersong was first written. Their backyard was featured in the movie ‘A River Runs Through It.’ Dave can carry a tune in a bucket, if needed.


Dave is a piano technician and restorer, and is also on the board of the Ibsen Adoption Agency, dedicated to placing children with special needs in loving families.

David Anderson and Merrick Dupea met in 1981 at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. They quickly began collaborating on musical projects, including composition, college and community performances, and a touring band, culminating in the original production of The Watersong in 1983. In subsequent years they have created many additional arts and media projects.


David Anderson is a successful private businessman in Olympia with over 30 years of experience as a piano tuner/technician. He has been involved in music all of his life – much of it in church settings. His background includes song writing, arranging, and performance. His acoustic vocal trio Tapestry has presented a Christmas concert series for the past 18 years. Dave has produced several music performances at churches in his hometown of Olympia, Washington. He is an excellent pianist and composer with a wonderful sense of harmony and melody. 


Dave has served as a youth director and has been leading worship at his church since 1983. He also co-founded and helps manage the Ibsen Adoption Network, which aids families adopting children with special needs. Dave and his wife Anne have 4 children, 3 of whom are adopted.



Merrick Dupea is a writer and musician with broad experience in music composition and scripting. He has written over 300 compositions for solo and group performance, for television shows and commercials, for worship services, and for theatre. He has performed in concerts, dramas, modern dance, and musicals, in churches and on television.  His scores were featured in the Mt. St. Helen’s special “The Fire Below Us”, which he also co-wrote and edited. Merrick is a audio and video producer by vocation, with projects for Microsoft, Panasonic, Boeing Aircraft Company, PBS, and many others. His video productions have garnered awards in both business and church media competitions.


Merrick has also been a youth pastor for both the Presbyterian Church and his present church. He currently serves as Executive Director of Arts Renaissance Ministries, a charitable organization which trains artists for creative excellence in sacred arts and media. He has been a worship leader at his church since 1985. He and his wife Stephanie have four sons and one daughter.


Between the delights and disasters of two busy lives, David and Merrick have spent several years on the adaptation of “Hinds’ Feet on High Places” into the musical drama, “The Watersong”. They bring a rich history of musical and dramatic experience to the adaptation of one of the best-loved Christian novels of the 20th Century.
